Intentions Make The Wo(man)

I am a very spiritual woman, as I have mentioned in previous blogs. A huge part (to me) of being spiritual is owning up to the REAL you, which includes your thoughts, actions and intentions (Intention n. An aim or plan). Most of the time, our intentions are private, kept within our hearts, away from public opinion or judgement. However, that does not mean we don’t need to be straight up and honest with ourselves about your heart’s intentions. The issue is: we rarely have the courage or energy to do so. Maybe it will shock or anger a few, but the whole purpose is to keep it real, so here goes.

In my opinion, people hide behind religion. They hide behind/from God, Allah, the higher power, the alpha and Omega, the All Knowing, the universe, the ultimate energy source, even the institute of modern-day religion. Ok, I know that stings a little for me to say that, but hear me out. We can all agree that intentions usually lead to actions which then lead to consequence (both good and bad). So we have to start at the beginning with INTENTIONS.

As I said earlier, intentions reside in the private places within our heart, our soul, our mind. So my take is this, if are we one (If God, the spirit, dwells inside of me) who am I hiding my intentions from? The answer would be: I am hiding from myself! And if I am hiding my intentions from myself, then I won’t be ready to take a course of action that will be best for me. More likely I will take a course of action that I have to fall back on “God Will Forgive Me” or some similar platitude. If we start with our private intentions, and are honest and accountable for those inner most private thoughts, then we are more likely to be honest, accepting and accountable for our actions, and therefore consequences. BUT! It has to start within us. Honesty is the key to true growth (both spiritual and personal). Let’s say we steal some cookies from a cookie jar, if we shrug our shoulders and say “God will forgive me” and keep it pushin’, have we learned anything about ourselves or grown? (Spoiler: No.) But if we steal some cookies from the cookie jar, and say to ourselves “I did that because I didn’t want anyone else to have some” … now we have revealed a character flaw, that we need to adjust so that we can grow (the ultimate goal).

Let’s change our wording from now. Let’s say: “I did this because…. *insert your honest intentions here*....” Let’s help OURSELVES to grow and become even better human beings, because let’s be honest, you can hide your intentions for the short term, but the way the Universe is set up? They will always resurface.
